THE FOOLISH THEATRE COMPANY is pleased to announce its production of "FUNNY AS A CRUTCH," nine irreverent short comedies about disability by RICH ORLOFF, directed by JEFFREY C. WOLF. The production opens on Saturday, November 1st at 8:00 pm at THE DOROTHY STRELSIN THEATRE. Performances continue Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm, through Sunday, November 23rd, with additional performances on Monday, November 3rd and Monday, November 10th at 7 pm. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased by calling (212) 868-4444 or visiting THE DOROTHY STRELSIN THEATRE, in the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, is located at 312 W. 36th St., 1st floor (just west of Eighth Avenue).

"FUNNY AS A CRUTCH" explores perceptions and projections about disability via nine irreverent short comedies that range from satiric - a visit to the employment bureau CLICHE (the Concerned Liberal Institute for Compassionate Handicapped Employment) to seriocomic - a one-legged young man who wants to enlist but is rejected by an Army recruiter.

The production features an ensemble of five versatile comedic actors with disabilities: MARY THERESA ARCHBOLD, PHILIP J. CUTRONE, SHANNON DeVIDO, STEPHEN JUTRAS and GREGG MOZGALA. Developed in two workshops, at the WorkShop Theatre Company and National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped, casting was assisted by Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts.

Playwright RICH ORLOFF is a prolific author of short comedies, which have received over 500 productions on six continents and a staged reading in Antarctica. His short plays have been produced locally in festivals at the WorkShop Theater Company, Vital Theatre Company, Emerging Artists Theatre Company, Gallery Players, and over a dozen other groups. His newest full-length comedy, SKIN DEEP, winner of the 2008 Larry Corse Playwriting Prize, will premiere in Atlanta in October.

Director JEFFREY C. WOLF directed the Foolish Theatre Company's ROMANTIC FOOLS and INCREDIBLE SEX, and has also directed at Kaleidoscope Theatre Company, American Theatre of Actors and Penn State.

THE FOOLISH THEATRE COMPANY is an Off-Off-Broadway theater company dedicated to comedy in all forms. The company's first three productions, ROMANTIC FOOLS, INCREDIBLE SEX and FOREIGN AFFAIRS, have since been published by Playscripts, Inc. and produced around the world.
