CHAMBER MUSIC is set in 1938 and tells the story of eight famous women from different historical periods who all are interned in the same insane asylum. The women are — or at least believe they are — author Gertrude Stein, martyr Joan of Arc, activist Susan B. Anthony, politician Queen Isabella of Spain, Constanze Mozart (wife of the famed composer), pilot Amelia Earhart, silent-film actress Pearl White, and explorer Osa Johnson. They have come together to represent the women of the asylum in planning for an attack they believe is soon to come from the men's ward.  In THE DAY THE WHORES CAME OUT TO PLAY TENNIS an invasion of off-stage farting whores outrages the Tennis Club members who bicker while the set collapses around them.

Featured in the cast of CHAMBER MUSIC are OMAR ABDALI, VICTORIA BOOMSMA, MARGIE CATOV, PETRA KIPKE, JUDY MERRICK, JULIANNE NELSON, DAN SNOW, LAURA SPAETH, LUANNE SURACE and KIM VASQUEZ.  Featured in the cast of T.D.T.W.C.O.T.P.T. are ROBERT F. COLE, BILL KRAKAUER, THOMAS S. NIELSEN, PAUL PRICER, JONATHAN PEREIRA and ZACHARY ZITO.

The design team includes sets by JOHN SCHEFFLER, costumes by VESNA STAJIC, lighting by VICTORIA CERNOS-KIELY, sound by MICK O’BRIEN, props by ZACHARY ZITO.

Associate Producers are LILITH BEITCHMAN and BRENDAN CONNOLLY.

ARTHUR LEE KOPIT is a three-time Tony Award nominee who plays include INDIANS, (Best Play 1970); WINGS (Best Play 1979, Drama Desk Nomination) and NINE, (Best Book of a Musical 1982). He won the Vernon Rice Award for his play OH DAD, POOR DAD, MAMA'S HUNG YOU IN THE CLOSET AND I'M FEELIN' SO SAD.

MORTALS THEATER is the Manhattan extension of the Brooklyn Stage Company based in Red Hook founded in 1992 by the actor/producer Robert F. Cole.  Both companies seek to breathe new life into classic plays with a working class social and political consciousness. The BSC took its name from the English Stage Company of the 1950’s. The name “Mortals” was born of a conversation with Elaine Stritch. Robert related to her his desire to form a “Mortal Theater”. Elaine responded “Make it plural. Mortals. We’re all mortal for God’s sake!”
