TONY AWARD-WINNING CHELSEA THEATER CENTER, TO DIRECT NEW

BIOPLAY AT WORKSHOP THEATER COMPANY

WorkShop Theater Company, Artistic Director, TIMOTHY SCOTT HARRIS and Managing Director, DAVID M. PINCUS are proud to announce the production of A BRUSH WITH GEORGIA O’KEEFFE by NATALIE MOSCO, directed by Broadway veteran ROBERT KALFIN and featuring NATALIE MOSCO, DAVID LLOYD WALTERS and VIRGINIA RONCETTI.  The production begins previews on Thursday, March 20th at 8 pm and opens on Friday, March 21st at 8:00 pm.  Performances continue Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 pm through April 5th.  Tickets are $18; students/seniors $15.  For reservations, call (212) 695-4173, ext. 4-pound (group sales information, ext 6-pound).  The WorkShop Theater Company’s Jewel Box Theater is located at 312 W. 36th St, on the 4th floor, just off 8th Avenue. 

A BRUSH WITH GEORGIA O’KEEFFE takes a fresh and inspiring new look at the life of this renowned American painter (1887-1986) who, born on farmland in Wisconsin, managed to escape the limitations of gender, poverty, and isolation to become the most distinguished American female artist of the twentieth century. This compelling story, developed at the WorkShop Theater Company, told with grace, passion and wit, spans approximately ninety-five years of O’Keeffe’s remarkable life.   

Director ROBERT KALFIN is the Founder of New York's award-winning Chelsea Theater Center, winner of 5 Tony Awards, 4 Tony Nominations and 21 Obie Awards. He has directed plays on Broadway, off-Broadway, on television, in American & Canadian regional theaters, in Europe, and as far abroad as Siberia. Mr. Kalfin's Broadway credits include STRIDER, HAPPY END (starring Meryl Streep and Christopher Lloyd), YENTL (starring Tovah Feldshuh), TRULY BLESSED (A Celebration of Mahalia Jackson) and he was the Co-Producer of Harold Prince's production of CANDIDE.  Recent productions include the off-Broadway production of William Mastrosimone's A STONE CARVER starring Dan Lauria, MARIE ANTOINETTE: THE COLOR OF FLESH at the 45th Street Playhouse, Brecht's GALILEO at the NYU Skirball Performing Arts Center and the stage adaptation of Dickens' HARD TIMES for Pace University. 

Playwright NATALIE MOSCO who also appears as Georgia O’Keeffe is an actor, writer, director and choreographer.  Ms. Mosco made her Broadway debut in the original cast of HAIR. Her career has spanned three continents: Broadway (HAIR, THE MAGIC SHOW), Off-Broadway, and regional USA; London's West End (GRAND HOTEL); Paris (HAIR); and Australia (STEPPING OUT, THE ARCHBISHOP’S CEILING, DAMES AT SEA). She has danced with the Royal Ballet and her paintings have been displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA. 

 Now in its 14th season, the WorkShop Theater Company specializes in the development of new plays.  The company’s two-theater complex on 36th Street includes the 65-seat Main Stage Theater and the 35-seat Jewel Box Theater.  The award-winning film, “Finding Neverland” began as the stage play THE MAN WHO WAS PETER PAN by Allan Knee, and was first presented and developed by WorkShop Theater Company in 1998.  Two WorkShop Members, Nellie Bellflower and David Magee were nominated for Academy Awards for their work on this project.  The WorkShop Theater Company has also presented premiere productions of by Murray Schisgal (best known for the screenplay of “Tootsie”) and Tom Dulack (author of the Off-Broadway hit BREAKING LEGS).  For more information on the WorkShop Theater Company, please visit www.workshoptheater.org.
