Michael Vick – the key to the NFC East first place

The New York Giants know they have to show their best this coming Sunday. If they show up with a mediocre performance they are going to run into a similar embarrassment as the Washington Redskins on Monday. The Philadelphia Eagles are on a high right now. Led by their quarterback Michael Vick they destroyed the Redskins 59-28 and it seems as if Vick, the player that only got his position because Kevin Kolb’s injury a few months ago, is living up to his full potential.

This Sunday the game will be more than a regular season game as it’s going to determine which team will get the NFC East first place.  The Giants’ game strategy has to be able to do magic or involve a little bit of cheating as Head Coach Tom Coughlin suggested. "I think the officials can give us one of those based on last week, maybe." This comment seems very justifiable looking at how Vick is able to expose the opponents’ defense. In the game on Monday night he threw for four touchdowns, ran for two, rushed 10 times for 80 yards, passed for 333 more and led the Eagles to a franchise-record 592 yards in total offense. Teammate Barry Cofield explains him straightforward as “the biggest weapon in the league."

Trail Blazers spend their gym time differently

Thanksgiving is coming and where many people force themselves out on the street, the track or just the treadmill to work off some pounds, the Trail Blazers took a break from training to collectively head to host the Rose Garden’s 15th annual Harvest Dinner on Tuesday. Greg Oden and his teammates as well as coaches and front office personnel reached out to homeless and critically low-income people by providing them with a Thanksgiving-style meal.

The Providence Health & Services event offered not only food but also other services, such as flu shots and haircuts. "It's a great opportunity to meet the community and feed some people," Coach Nate McMillan states. "There's so many people with issues in this country, and the turnout over the last two years has been amazing. First of all, it's fun. It's a great feeling, and you're helping some people get a hot meal. And you know some of those people, this may be all they have for the day."

Women In Sports Will Get More Attention With Queen Latifah

Women in sports are often not as well represented and targeted as men in the sports world. News reports and talk shows are geared towards males and appeal less to the female population. AOL is attempting to put an end to it. After contracts with Ben Silverman for Electus, Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum and the Jonas Brothers, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong has asked Queen Latifah to become the hostess of a sports-themed talk show for women. The show will be part of a web series on AOL, which will air regularly on the web site.

Armstrong has been targeting web content heavily over the past eight months and is aiming to put a face to the Internet and its services. He drew a comparison to other companies in the field and explained that even though AOL is a leader in some of them it still has to improve in others. "The first phase of the Internet was about access, and I believe AOL was the biggest player in that phase. Then the next phase has really been about the platform, so you've seen Apple, Google and Facebook there," he said."But the phase after this is going to be more of the Hollywood phase, where it's about content, creativity and really putting a human face on the Internet." The success from his contract with Ben Silverman and Electus brings high hopes for the future project about including and targeting women’s interests in the sports industry.
