NBC Seeks out Seacrest

The “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest has recently been scouted by NBC Universal for a spot of the Today Show. Mr. Seacrest would be taking the position from Matt Lauer who has been rumored to be vacating his co-anchor seat next year. These talks are only preliminary and could be a negotiating tactic for NBC executive who are anxious to have a strong back up plan in case Mr. Lauer plans to leave the Today Show. It is rumored that Seacrest is NBC’s top choice.

Larger shows like “Today” have become more and more important to television divisions of media. It’s become increasingly clear that more audience members are beginning to fragment and morning shows are one of the few types of programs that sustain viewer numbers. Morning shows, besides sporting events, have become one of the only sure bet in television. Matt Lauer has been a co-anchor since 1997 and since then has become part of the stabilizing force on the show.
