In partnership with Overbrook Entertainment, Sony is developing “What Would Kenny Do,” a comedy slated for 2012 that will star Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber. Both Bieber and Kutcher will play lead character Kenny—Bieber as the troubled 17-year-old version and Kutcher as his 30-year-old future self. The story focuses on the duo’s attempts to sort out Kenny’s life.
Ashton Kutcher’s Katalyst Films and Motion Picture Corp. of America will be part of the production process alongside Overbrook Entertainment. The story behind “What Would Kenny Do” comes from Christopher Baldi, who also wrote “Scavengers” and “Man on the Bottom.” No deals have been signed yet, but the script is in development and appeared on the Black List in 2008. While Kutcher has several lead roles under his belt, the film would be the first big-screen feature for Bieber, should it go into production.
Overbrook Entertainment produces music, films and television shows, and was created by Will Smith in 1997. “The Karate Kid”, “The Secret Life of Bees”, “I Am Legend”, “The Pursuit of Happyness”, “Hitch” and several other films are among its credits.
